What We Are

We believe our role at AASSH is to:

  • Speak up for church schools and academies
  • Nurture and develop Heads in church schools and academies
  • Support new Heads in church schools and academies
  • Act in aconsultancy role to support under-performing church schools and academies
  • Develop capacity in the leadership of church schools and academies

AASSH believes that:

  • Christian faith is central to the work of church schools and academies
  • Through worship, relationships and their view of education, Christian schools and academies develop young people to become whole fulfilled adults responsive to God and contributing to society
  • Anglican schools stand at the centre of the Church of England's mission to the nation
  • Christian school leaders are essential to effective and successful church schools

Secondary church schools and academies come in many shapes and sizes. Our settings range from inner-city to remote and rural. Some are a homogeneous community of Christian pupils, others are more mixed; many have large numbers of children of other faiths. But all church schools and academies share the same calling - to give young people the chance to learn and grow in a distinctively Christian community that is inclusive of all. At AASSH, we speak up for church schools and academies in public debate, support each other as leaders, and work to develop the leaders of the future.
